New Delhi, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : Bharat Kumar Kuthati has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs on September 16, 2026. Kuthati, an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 2006 batch, is currently serving as the High Commissioner to Botswana.
The Ministry expressed optimism about Kuthati’s new role in Trinidad and Tobago. He was appointed as the High Commissioner to Botswana in May 2023 and has since contributed to various diplomatic desks within the Ministry and at Indian missions abroad.
Before becoming a High Commissioner, Kuthati served as the Regional Passport Officer in Bengaluru, where he played a key role in modernizing passport and consular services. Since taking office in Gaborone, he has focused on strengthening India-Botswana bilateral relations, particularly in areas such as the ITEC program, ICCR scholarships, defense, health, education, agriculture, and digital skills.
During his tenure, discussions have included training for the women’s cricket team in India and initiatives for employment opportunities for local youth. Kuthati is recognized as an experienced diplomat actively promoting India’s development partnership with Africa.
India and Botswana established diplomatic relations shortly after Botswana gained independence in 1966. These ties are founded on mutual friendship and cooperation, with India opening its High Commission in Gaborone in 1987, followed by Botswana establishing its embassy in New Delhi in 2006. This reflects the strengthening relationship between the two nations.
Bilateral trade primarily revolves around the diamond and gemstone sectors, with Indian companies playing a significant role in cutting and polishing.
