Beijing, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held phone conversations on September 14 with France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Latvia’s Foreign Minister Baiba Braze. This dialogue was initiated at the invitation of both ministers.
During the call with Barrot, Wang emphasized the ongoing development of China-France relations under the strategic leadership of both nations. He noted the current international turmoil and stressed that as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and France must strengthen their strategic communication to face shared risks and challenges. Wang expressed China’s active support for France’s role as the president of the Security Council this month and hoped that France would promote the council’s appropriate functions.
Wang also reiterated that the One China policy serves as the political foundation for the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and France. He framed China’s growth as an opportunity for the European Union rather than a challenge, urging France to play a practical and rational role in stabilizing Europe-China relations.
In response, Barrot affirmed France’s commitment to the One China policy while acknowledging the existing challenges in economic relations between Europe and China. He expressed France’s intention to enhance constructive dialogue to address these issues.
In a separate conversation with Latvia’s Braze, Wang acknowledged the longstanding cooperative relationship between China and Latvia. Braze highlighted the fruitful collaboration on multilateral platforms such as the UN Security Council and expressed hope for strengthened communication and exchanges to further develop bilateral ties.
Wang responded by affirming that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Latvia have treated each other with mutual respect and equality. He expressed China’s desire to enhance bilateral relations with Latvia.
