Chandigarh, June 24: Sunil Jakhar, former president of the Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stated on social media that the viral video of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is not a political issue but one related to religious sentiments.
In his post on X, Jakhar emphasized that the video does not pertain to politics. Instead, it concerns the feelings of the Nanak Naam Leva Sangat. He raised concerns about how an arrogant individual is challenging the supreme authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Jakhar further questioned how Punjab can raise its voice against global challenges to faith if a person accused of disrespecting Guru Sahib remains in power on the land of the Gurus. He asked, “Can any Sikh tolerate this?”
Addressing CM Mann, Jakhar suggested that if he wishes to leave decisions to the people, he should resign and seek a mandate from them, similar to how Arvind Kejriwal did in Delhi. He reminded that Sikhs follow the principle: “One may give their head, but never compromise on principles or honor.” No one can escape the grave sin of disrespecting the Guru through the power of position. For a Sikh, the Guru is above all, and justice will be served by the Guru Sahib and the Sangat.
Jakhar lamented that it is unfortunate for someone born on Punjab’s soil, familiar with its religion and history, to be so intoxicated by power that they challenge Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He noted that those who have previously confronted Sri Akal Takht Sahib have ultimately faced dire consequences.
The controversy surrounding the viral video escalated as it allegedly shows CM Bhagwant Mann disrespecting Sikh religious symbols. The Akal Takht has deemed the video authentic and labeled Mann as a “Guru Dokhi.” Opposition parties, including the BJP, have demanded his resignation.
The situation worsened when allegations surfaced regarding the fabrication of a false forensic report to exonerate the CM, leading to arrests by the Haryana police.
