Chandigarh, June 24: Amidst the controversy surrounding a viral video allegedly linked to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia labeled him a “liar” and “alcoholic” on Wednesday, questioning his “disgraceful actions.”
The dispute intensified following allegations of forgery related to the forensic report of the video.
Speaking to reporters, Majithia stated, “The Chief Minister is shameless, dishonest, and an alcoholic. This is not just our claim; even his children have said so. Why did his ex-wife leave him? For these very reasons.”
He referred to accusations of Mann being under the influence during Punjab Assembly sessions, noting that fellow legislators had complained about his drinking problem.
Majithia further claimed, “He (CM Mann) went to the Guru house while intoxicated. These allegations have been made by his own family members and associates. The same issue—alcohol—persists in this video.”
The SAD leader asserted that the Chief Minister allegedly crossed all limits by pouring alcohol over images of Sikh Gurus.
He questioned, “For me, my religion comes first. The Guru Granth Sahib is everything to me, and the significance of Akal Takht is paramount. Does any Chief Minister have the right to challenge Sri Akal Takht Sahib?”
Regarding the source of the video, Majithia mentioned, “The video showing disrespect towards Sikh Gurus was provided by Bhagwant Mann’s friend Jagman Samra. What other option did the Akal Takht Jathedar have but to inquire whether it was real or fake?”
Referring to Mann’s claim that the video was AI-generated, he stated, “The Akal Takht asked him to name the three labs that could verify the video, but he provided no response. If the Chief Minister were honest, he could have said we have the CFSL in Chandigarh or a government lab in Delhi.”
Majithia added, “He knew that if the video was confirmed, he could face serious trouble. Instead, he chose to ignore the issue, hoping it would be forgotten in a few days. After nearly six months of unanswered questions, the video was confirmed as authentic. Consequently, the Akal Takht declared him a ‘Guru Drohi’ (enemy of the Guru).”
The SAD leader emphasized that the Akal Takht’s decision was “completely justified.” He asked, “Do we not have any religious sentiments? Just because he is the Chief Minister, does he have the freedom to do anything, including disrespecting Sikh Gurus and committing disgraceful acts?”
