Mumbai, June 14: The ‘370 Biryani’ controversy, sparked by a controversial remark from renowned stand-up comedian Praneet More during a comedy show, continues to gain traction. Shiv Sena (UBT) senior leader Priyanka Chaturvedi has responded, urging a focus on social responsibility and decorum in comedy.
She emphasized that while freedom of expression is crucial, it must be accompanied by social sensitivity and accountability.
Priyanka noted that she had previously addressed issues related to comedians like Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina. She stated that comedians should be mindful of certain boundaries while performing. Many stand-up comedians successfully navigate their craft within acceptable limits.
She remarked that Praneet More understands his audience, knows the nature of his jokes, and is aware of how to engage viewers. It is essential for comedians to operate within societal boundaries for the best outcomes. However, if they seek to earn money through cheap popularity, they risk damaging societal mindsets.
In addition, Priyanka Chaturvedi raised serious questions regarding corporate accountability in light of a recent suicide case involving a TCS employee in Mumbai.
She stated that the first question should be directed at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS): why, despite generating substantial profits globally and employing thousands in India, does the company fail to adhere to basic labor laws and regulations aimed at preventing sexual harassment in the workplace?
She insisted that strict action should be taken against companies that do not comply with labor laws and regulations.
