Priyanka Chaturvedi Criticizes Cross-Voting in Rajya Sabha Elections

New Delhi, March 17: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has raised concerns over the recent defeat of the Grand Alliance in the Rajya Sabha elections for five seats in Bihar. She stated that open ‘horse-trading’ has now become a norm in these elections. This statement comes in light of three Congress MLAs in Bihar who did not cast their votes. The NDA secured victory even in a seat where the Grand Alliance claimed they would win.

Chaturvedi pointed out that a troubling new trend has emerged, where independent candidates, often linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party, are being aided to win elections based on specific influences. She questioned the reasons behind cross-voting, suggesting it often occurs due to monetary incentives or pressure from agencies. “Open horse-trading is happening. Money is being exchanged openly, and MLAs have become like pieces of property. They bid and vote according to the highest bidder,” she remarked.

Expressing her concerns, Chaturvedi warned that if such MLAs are bought in Rajya Sabha elections, it will turn into a hub for horse-trading. She criticized the Election Commission for not addressing this issue, calling it shameful. “In the coming days, when other parties grow stronger, we will witness the same scenario. Political parties need to reflect on this matter,” she added.

She emphasized that the Rajya Sabha, which has been served by renowned personalities who understood the nation’s soul and responsibilities, has now become a source of embarrassment.

Regarding the Maharashtra Anti-Conversion Bill, she stated that their support hinges on ensuring that no coercion takes place. If the bill passes, it should come with regulations to prevent misuse.

On Deputy CM Eknath Shinde’s visit to Delhi, Chaturvedi noted that he is a partner in the alliance. She speculated that he might be visiting in connection with the ongoing tensions within the Maharashtra government, but added that it is a matter for their alliance.

Commenting on the arrival of the Indian ship ‘Nanda Devi’ after ‘Shivalik,’ Chaturvedi highlighted the struggles people face as they line up for LPG. She pointed out the rising inflation and how the public is suffering as a result. “The government has already increased LPG prices. Now, the disaster we face is that people are unable to access LPG. The current government is not working in the public’s interest,” she concluded.
