Prime Minister Modi Extends Best Wishes for Madhavpur Fair in Porbandar, Celebrating Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat

New Delhi, March 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed his best wishes for the ongoing Madhavpur Fair in Porbandar, Gujarat. He emphasized that this festival brings together diverse traditions, embodying the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.’

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi took to the social media platform X to share his sentiments. He stated, “Heartfelt wishes for the Madhavpur Fair in Porbandar, Gujarat. This vibrant celebration showcases our glorious culture and strengthens the eternal cultural bond between Gujarat and the Northeast. The festival unites various traditions, reflecting the true essence of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.’ I encourage everyone to attend this fair.”

During this occasion, Modi also shared a video from the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program aired on March 27, 2022, where he discussed the significance of the Madhavpur Fair. He noted, “In the 2022 ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, I spoke about the importance of the Madhavpur Fair and its relevance in our culture.”

In his address, he elaborated, “Understanding where and why the Madhavpur Fair takes place, and its connection to India’s diversity, will intrigue the listeners of ‘Mann Ki Baat.’ The fair is held in Madhavpur village near the sea in Porbandar. However, it also connects to the eastern part of India. You might wonder how that is possible? The answer lies in a mythological tale. It is said that thousands of years ago, Lord Krishna married the princess Rukmini from the Northeast, and this marriage was celebrated in Madhavpur, which is why the fair continues to be held there today.”

He further added, “This deep connection between the East and West is our heritage. Over time, new elements have been added to the Madhavpur Fair through people’s efforts. In our culture, the bride’s family is referred to as ‘gharati,’ and now many gharatis from the Northeast are also attending this fair. Over the week-long celebration, artists from all Northeast states and craftsmen bring vibrancy to the event. This fair exemplifies the beautiful union of cultures from the East and West, representing ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.’ I urge you to read and learn more about this fair.”

It is noteworthy that the famous Madhavpur Fair, commemorating the marriage of Lord Krishna and Rukmini, was inaugurated on March 27 and will continue for five days.
