Kashmir, July 30: A devotee from Mahoba district in Uttar Pradesh has gained attention during the Amarnath Yatra. This pilgrim has reached Qazigund after undertaking a unique 413-day journey on his stomach, lying on a thermocol sheet.
The devotee, Sunil, has become a focal point for many travelers along the route to Amarnath. As he passed through Qazigund, numerous pilgrims stopped to see and speak with him. Security personnel assigned to the annual pilgrimage ensured his safe passage along the busy highway.
In an interview, Sunil stated, “I am on a Dandavat Yatra to Amarnath Dham. My journey has lasted 413 days. I pray for peace and prosperity in the country as I make my way to Baba Barfani.”
Regarding safety, Sunil mentioned, “I am traveling alone, but security forces are helping ensure my safe journey.”
It is noteworthy that the Amarnath Yatra has attracted a significant number of devotees from across the country. In just 26 days, the number of pilgrims has exceeded 415,000. To enhance facilities for devotees, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has also launched helicopter services, allowing pilgrims to visit religious sites and border areas.
The Amarnath cave temple features an ice structure that waxes and wanes with the moon’s phases. Devotees believe this ice formation symbolizes the divine powers of Lord Shiva. Pilgrims can choose between two routes to reach Baba Barfani: the traditional Nunwan (Pahalgam) route, which is 47 kilometers long, or the shorter Baltal base camp route, which is 14 kilometers.
Those using the Baltal route return to the base camp on the same day after visiting the holy cave, while those on the Pahalgam route take four days to reach the sacred site.
