New Delhi, June 23: President Droupadi Murmu will present the Padma Awards for 2026 during the ‘Civil Investiture Ceremony-2’ at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday. Among the 65 recipients are former Union Minister Shibu Soren, tennis star Vijay Amritraj, actor Mammootty, and singer Alka Yagnik.
The ceremony, set to begin at 5 PM, will also be attended by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, and other dignitaries.
During this second civil honors ceremony, President Murmu will confer 65 Padma Awards, which include two Padma Vibhushan, seven Padma Bhushan, and 56 Padma Shri awards.
Previously, on May 25, the President awarded 65 Padma Awards in the first civil honors ceremony, which included two Padma Vibhushan, six Padma Bhushan, and 57 Padma Shri awards.
The Padma Awards are among the highest civilian honors in the country, presented in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. These awards recognize excellence in various fields, including arts, social service, public affairs, science and engineering, business and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service.
The Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, the Padma Bhushan for high-level distinguished service, and the Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field. Announcements for these awards are made annually on Republic Day.
Former Union Minister and founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Shibu Soren, has been posthumously selected for the Padma Bhushan, while P. Narayanan and Justice (Retired) K.T. Thomas will receive the Padma Vibhushan for literature and education, and public affairs, respectively.
Other Padma Bhushan recipients include Vijay Amritraj, S.K.M. Mailanandan, Mammootty, Vellapally Natesan, Dattatreyaudu Nori, and Alka Yagnik.
The list of awardees also features two Americans, one Russian, and one Georgian citizen.
Dr. Dattatreyaudu Nori from the United States will receive the Padma Bhushan in the field of medicine. Professor Prateek Sharma will be honored with the Padma Shri for his contributions to medicine.
Lyudmila Khokhlova from Russia has been selected for the Padma Shri in literature and education, while Vladimir Mestvirishvili from Georgia will receive the Padma Shri posthumously for his achievements in sports. Professor Mahendra Nath Roy from West Bengal will be awarded the Padma Shri for his work in science and engineering.
