Jabalpur, June 21: President Droupadi Murmu participated in the International Yoga Day celebrations held in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, where she practiced yoga. During the event, she emphasized that yoga serves as a powerful medium connecting individuals to themselves, society to nature, and humanity to global consciousness.
In her address, President Murmu extended her best wishes to citizens and yoga practitioners worldwide on the occasion of International Yoga Day. She expressed her joy at being present on the sacred land of Jabalpur, stating, “I wish all yoga practitioners, both in India and abroad, a happy International Yoga Day. Today, we celebrate India’s great tradition that has shown humanity the path to a healthy, balanced, and meaningful life. Yoga is an invaluable gift of our cultural heritage to the global community, resulting from thousands of years of dedication by our sages.”
The President noted, “Our scriptures regard the balance of body, mind, and soul as the foundation of success in life. Yoga is the path to establishing that balance. The literal meaning of yoga is ‘to unite.’ It is a powerful medium connecting individuals to themselves, society to nature, and all of humanity to global consciousness.”
She added, “As the world faces numerous challenges today, yoga plays a crucial role in guiding humanity towards peace, balance, harmony, and collective well-being. In 2014, at India’s initiative, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as International Yoga Day. Following this initiative, yoga’s recognition as a powerful medium for global welfare has strengthened. Today, millions of people in various countries are incorporating yoga into their daily lives.”
President Murmu also highlighted the first ‘World Yoga Asana Expert Championship’ held this month in Ahmedabad as an example of yoga’s growing global acceptance, with participants from several countries.
She remarked, “When I travel abroad, people often ask about yoga. Many countries practice yoga regularly. This is a testament to India’s initiative and the global popularity of yoga. This year’s theme is ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging,’ which underscores the utility of yoga for the healthy, active, self-reliant, and dignified lives of senior citizens. The lifestyle we adopt today lays the foundation for our health and happiness in the future. Yoga helps us remain active and self-reliant as we age.”
