
New Delhi, April 28: The AYUSH Ministry has taken a significant step towards ensuring a grand and impactful celebration of International Yoga Day (IDY) 2026 by convening a high-level core committee meeting on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by AYUSH Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha and included representatives from key ministries and departments of the Indian government.
The AYUSH Secretary stated that the 2026 event will build on the strong foundation laid in previous years while also introducing new dimensions of public participation and international collaboration. He emphasized that coordinated efforts from all ministries and stakeholders will further enhance yoga’s global reputation as a powerful tool for health, harmony, and collective well-being.
With representatives from various ministries and related departments present, the meeting served as a crucial platform for institutional coordination, preliminary reviews, and collaborative action. The session was conducted by AYUSH Joint Secretary Monalisa Dash, with the participation of Joint Secretary Alarammelmgai D. and senior officials from other ministries.
During the meeting, a comprehensive presentation on International Yoga Day was shared, highlighting its global development, expansion, and impact. The main focus of the discussion was to strengthen coordination among ministries to enhance the reach and influence of the 2026 International Yoga Day.
Emphasis was placed on coordinated promotional strategies, increasing public participation, and integrating yoga into the daily lives of various societal segments through innovative initiatives. Ministries were encouraged to align their programs with a broader vision of promoting holistic health, preventive healthcare, and overall wellness through yoga.
The AYUSH Ministry highlighted that the unprecedented success of previous editions, including the extensive reach in 2025, has led the government to adopt a comprehensive approach for 2026. Preparatory efforts are actively underway, including structured countdown campaigns, digital engagement strategies, and theme-based programs focused on inclusivity, sustainability, and youth participation.
Plans were also reviewed for organizing yoga demonstrations at prominent locations, enhancing global outreach, and strengthening institutional participation in states and union territories.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment among all participating ministries and departments to work in close coordination to ensure that the 12th International Yoga Day is celebrated with unprecedented scale, visibility, and impact both in India and worldwide.
Representatives from key ministries such as the Home Ministry, External Affairs Ministry, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Ministry of Women and Child Development, and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change participated in the meeting. Officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Health Research, Ministry of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Sports, and the Postal Ministry were also present.
