Political Turmoil in Delhi Assembly Over CM Rekha Guptas Allegations

New Delhi, August 11: Political tensions have escalated in the Delhi Assembly following allegations made by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. In support of the CM’s claims, several BJP legislators have reacted strongly to the alleged misconduct and unparliamentary behavior exhibited by members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). They have demanded action, stating that such behavior undermines the dignity and decorum of the Assembly.

BJP legislator Karnail Singh criticized the AAP’s conduct, asserting that it was inappropriate for a member of the Assembly to engage in unparliamentary behavior. “Respect for women is paramount. The conduct displayed was unacceptable, especially since the proceedings of the Assembly are observed by the entire nation,” he stated. He emphasized that the public expects representatives to act responsibly and with decorum. The Assembly serves as a platform for democratic debate and discussions on public issues, and behavior within it sends a direct message to the citizens.

Supporting the Chief Minister’s allegations, BJP legislator Shikha Rai remarked that while debates can often become noisy, engaging in unparliamentary behavior while seated is a different matter altogether. She noted that although disruptions occur, the kind of behavior witnessed today crossed unacceptable boundaries. The Chief Minister raised this issue to uphold the dignity and decorum of the Assembly.

BJP legislator Anil Goyal expressed his strong disapproval of the unparliamentary conduct, stating that the behaviors observed were so egregious that they were hard to articulate. He urged the concerned legislator to improve their behavior, mindset, and conduct, stressing that representatives should focus on serving the public rather than creating controversies. Goyal also supported the Chief Minister’s statement that mere words are insufficient; a change in the conduct of representatives is necessary.

BJP legislator Harish Khurana called for serious action from the Assembly Speaker, alleging that a representative from Kirtinagar was observed engaging in unparliamentary behavior throughout the day, some of which was disrespectful towards women. He insisted that this matter requires serious discussion and that the concerned legislator should be warned to amend their conduct. The BJP has formally requested action from the Speaker, expressing hope that appropriate measures will be taken. Khurana also emphasized the need for a serious discussion regarding the dignity of the Assembly.

Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Mohan Singh Bisht, responded to the allegations of unparliamentary behavior, stating that such conduct was not exhibited by the BJP but rather by AAP legislators, who violated the dignity and decorum of the Assembly. He stressed that all members must maintain the dignity of the House and adhere to established decorum during debates and protests.
