Greater Noida, August 15: The police in Greater Noida have dismantled a gang that deceived people by showcasing fake gold. Five individuals, including four men and one woman, have been arrested. Authorities seized a significant amount of yellow metal beads, coins, ₹300,000 in cash, mobile phones, and an illegal knife from the suspects.
According to police reports, the gang lured victims by displaying fake gold and then tricked them into handing over real jewelry and cash. The first incident was reported on July 10, 2026, when a woman was approached in the Fusion Homes Society market. Initially, one man sat beside her, followed shortly by another who claimed he had been fired and was in need of money.
The first man suggested they could help each other and share the money. To gain the woman’s trust, he offered her his gold ring and asked her to show her jewelry in return. The woman, convinced by their words, handed over her gold chain and earrings. The two then misled her and fled the scene. Following the complaint, a case was registered at the Bisrakh police station, prompting an investigation.
Using electronic surveillance, CCTV footage, and local intelligence, police identified the suspects. On Friday, a police team apprehended the five individuals from the Green Belt near Nefowa Ghat.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Kishore Rai, Vishal Rai, Sanju Rai, Seva Ram Rai, and Meena. Police recovered two bundles of yellow metal beads weighing a total of 5.224 kg, along with coins weighing 3.338 kg. Additionally, they seized ₹300,000 in cash, ten keypad mobile phones, nine mobile batteries, six smartphones, and an illegal knife from Sanju.
During interrogation, the main suspect, Kishore Rai, and his accomplices revealed their method of operation. They would show fake gold and use a stack of papers with real notes on top and bottom to convince victims of large sums of money. They then exploited the victims’ greed for gold or cash to steal their valuables.
The ages of the arrested suspects range from 21 to 60 years, all originally from Jain Nagar in Firozabad but currently residing in Yusufpur Chak, Shahberi. Police have filed a case and are now investigating how many people the gang has previously defrauded using similar tactics, as well as the intended use of the recovered yellow metal and cash.
