Police Investigates Bus with Pro-Dawood Ibrahim Slogans in Coimbatore

Coimbatore, March 30: Coimbatore police have launched an investigation following the seizure of a private bus in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru district. The bus allegedly displayed slogans that appear to glorify fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim.

The bus departed from Coimbatore with over 40 engineering students on board. It was returning from Dandeli in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district when it was intercepted by Basavanahalli police.

Authorities were alerted by certain slogans on the vehicle, such as “Mumbai’s Gang” and “Real Don,” which they believe were written in admiration of Dawood Ibrahim.

Karnataka police confiscated the vehicle and filed a case against the bus driver and owner. The case is registered under Section 197(1) of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to acts deemed harmful to India’s sovereignty, unity, and integrity.

Police sources confirmed that the students traveling in the bus were not detained. After the vehicle was seized, they were allowed to continue their journey in an alternative vehicle.

Officials stated that the investigation will focus on the nature of the slogans, how they were displayed on the bus, and whether there was any deliberate attempt to promote illegal content.

In Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore police have initiated a parallel investigation into the incident. They aim to determine if the slogans were intentionally displayed, who authorized them, and whether the transport operator had prior knowledge of the content exhibited on the vehicle.

A senior police officer noted that while Karnataka officials are conducting a preliminary inquiry, Coimbatore police are investigating the background of the bus and the circumstances under which it was operated for a student trip.

Authorities also emphasized that travel operators and private vehicle owners should exercise caution to ensure that no illegal, provocative, or offensive material is displayed on their vehicles.

This incident has raised concerns about the lack of oversight in the branding and decoration of private buses used for student tourism and excursions. As the investigation continues, officials are expected to question individuals associated with the vehicle in the coming days.
