Mumbai, April 5: A significant anti-corruption operation unfolded in Maharashtra on Sunday. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Vilas Lad, a clerk from the Department of Economics and Planning, while he was accepting a bribe of ₹6,37,000.
The operation took place in the Kharghar area of Navi Mumbai, causing a stir within the state ministry.
According to information released by the ACB, the case is linked to the approval of funds from the Rural Development Department. Allegations suggest that Vilas Lad demanded a substantial sum from a complainant in exchange for facilitating the fund approval. Upon contacting the ACB, the complainant’s claims were substantiated through a preliminary investigation. Subsequently, the ACB devised a plan to catch the official in the act.
The operation was executed in Kharghar, where the accused was apprehended immediately after accepting the bribe. The ACB reported that the operation was conducted with precision and confidentiality, leaving the accused with no opportunity to evade capture.
This incident marks the second major case of open bribery related to ministry operations, raising concerns about transparency in government dealings. Such recurring incidents are eroding public trust.
