CBIs Petition Against Alleged Liquor Scam to be Heard in Delhi High Court on April 6

New Delhi, April 5: The Delhi High Court will hear the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) petition challenging the acquittal of several individuals, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in the alleged liquor scam case. The hearing is scheduled for Monday. Sources from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) indicate that Kejriwal and others will request the recusal of Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma, who is presiding over the case.

In legal terms, recusal means a judge stepping away from hearing a case. According to AAP sources, Kejriwal plans to present his arguments in court personally.

Previously, Kejriwal and others raised concerns about Justice Sharma’s impartiality, requesting the case be transferred to a different bench. However, this request was denied by the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. The accused have also filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding the bench change.

The CBI’s petition, which challenges the acquittal of Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and 23 others in the Delhi excise policy case, was heard on March 9. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta described the case as one of the largest scams in the national capital. He stated that scientific investigations have been conducted, proving every aspect of the conspiracy. Mehta emphasized that this is a clear case of corruption involving bribery, acceptance, and use of illicit funds.

He further explained that money was transferred in multiple installments through hawala channels. All key witnesses have been interrogated before a magistrate, and statements have been recorded under Section 164. There are witnesses who clearly outline how the conspiracy was orchestrated, how bribes were given, and to whom. Mehta asserted that they possess emails and WhatsApp chats, dismissing any notion that the allegations are fabricated.
