Greater Noida, June 7: A confrontation occurred between the Bisrakh police and a gang involved in ATM fraud on June 6, 2026. The police engaged the suspects who were withdrawing money from people’s accounts through deceptive means. During the encounter, one suspect was injured by gunfire, while two others were apprehended during a combing operation.
The police recovered illegal firearms, a stolen motorcycle, cash, and tools used in the crimes from the suspects. According to police reports, the Bisrakh police were conducting a checking operation at SKS Tirahe when they noticed a suspicious motorcycle approaching from Green Arch, carrying three young men.
When the police signaled them to stop, the suspects fled at high speed towards 6 Percent Park. The police team pursued them, leading to the suspects’ motorcycle skidding and falling. Realizing they were cornered, the suspects opened fire on the police. In the retaliatory action, one of the suspects, Sohail Malik (24), a resident of Salarpur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, was shot in the leg.
His accomplices, Shoaib Malik (25) and Rakesh Kumar (24), were subsequently surrounded and arrested by the police. The injured suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment. During interrogation, the suspects revealed a shocking method of their fraud. They would approach ATMs in Noida, Ghaziabad, and the Delhi-NCR region, inserting Fevikwik into the card slot.
They would then stick a note on the machine with their mobile number, posing as a helpline. When a customer’s ATM card got stuck, the suspects misled them into entering their PIN number one or two times, allowing them to see it. After assuring the victim that their card would be released in an hour, the suspects would retrieve the card using pliers and a screwdriver once the customer left, subsequently withdrawing money from their accounts.
The police seized a .315 bore illegal pistol, two live cartridges, one spent cartridge, a stolen Splendor motorcycle, a screwdriver, pliers, two packets of Elfi, and ₹7,320 in cash from the suspects. Authorities noted that the suspects had multiple prior cases registered against them for theft, violations of the Arms Act, and other criminal activities in various police stations across Gautam Buddh Nagar. The police are now investigating the suspects’ associates and their criminal network.
