
Greater Noida, June 6: An encounter between police and snatchers in the Beta-2 area of Greater Noida on Saturday resulted in the injury of a notorious criminal, while his accomplice managed to escape.
The police apprehended the injured criminal and seized an illegal firearm, a stolen motorcycle, a looted gold chain, and three snatched mobile phones from him. According to police reports, on June 6, 2026, the Beta-2 police were conducting checks on suspicious individuals and vehicles near the Dhakiya Baba roundabout with the help of local intelligence.
During this operation, officers attempted to stop a suspicious motorcycle approaching them. The police stated that the motorcycle-riding criminals attempted to flee at high speed instead of stopping and opened fire on the police team with the intent to kill. In response, the police pursued the suspects and returned fire.
One of the police bullets struck a criminal in the leg, causing him to fall. The injured suspect was identified as Rajendra, also known as Lallu or Leelu, a 26-year-old resident of Khushiyal Tola, Paterwa police station, Gorakhpur district, and currently living in Site-5, Kasna, Greater Noida. He has been sent to the hospital for treatment.
From the arrested suspect, police recovered a .315 bore illegal firearm, one live cartridge, one spent cartridge, a stolen Apache motorcycle from the Kasna area, a looted gold chain, and three mobile phones. Police teams are actively conducting combing operations to locate the escaped accomplice.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect and his accomplice targeted pedestrians, using weapons to snatch chains and mobile phones. Police indicated that both individuals were involved in an incident on June 1, 2026, where they snatched a gold chain from a person in the village of Nawada, leading to a case being registered at the Beta-2 police station.
According to police records, the arrested suspect Rajendra has 28 criminal cases registered against him across various police stations in Gautam Buddh Nagar, including robbery, snatching, theft, attempted murder, illegal possession of weapons, and violations of the NDPS Act. His criminal activities have been ongoing since 2019. The police are now investigating the involvement of his escaped accomplice in other incidents.
