Kolkata, June 7: Govind Dev Giri Maharaj, trustee and treasurer of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, shared his views on the history curriculum in schools and the portrayal of the Mughal era in West Bengal. He emphasized the need for reforms in the education system, advocating for a more accurate and balanced presentation of history. He noted that certain elements within the country’s education framework are flawed and require reassessment and removal.
Govind Dev Giri Maharaj stated that his remarks align with Prime Minister Modi’s thoughts and directives. He stressed that sustainable change in any society and nation can only be achieved through education. By improving the education system and addressing its existing errors, the future of the country can be significantly strengthened.
During his address, he also referenced the political situation in West Bengal and the role of the Chief Minister. He highlighted the importance of revitalizing the state’s cultural and historical identity. There is a need to preserve and create symbols and monuments that reflect local culture and traditions.
He suggested that many place names and historical references should be reconsidered, particularly those linked to foreign invasions or rule. According to him, such changes would enhance societal awareness of its roots and strengthen cultural identity.
Govind Dev Giri Maharaj also emphasized the significance of religious faith and cultural pride. He remarked that the essence of India lies in its culture, religion, and traditions, and it is everyone’s responsibility to reinforce these values.
He praised the leadership in West Bengal for their efforts to enhance cultural consciousness, calling them vital. He urged attendees to remain aware of their traditions, culture, and religious values, and to pass them on to future generations.
