New Delhi, April 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the newly appointed full-time member of the NITI Aayog, Prof. Gobardhan Das, on Monday morning. PM Modi described his life journey as inspirational and praised his contributions to public health and immunology. He emphasized that Prof. Das’s expertise would further strengthen the policy-making process and guide the nation in a new direction.
Sharing a photo from their meeting on social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “I met with Prof. Gobardhan Das this morning. His personal journey is truly inspiring. The struggles he has faced have only strengthened his resolve to serve society and alleviate its suffering. This is evident in his contributions to public health and immunology. His rich work and scholarship will enhance our policy-making framework.”
After becoming a member of the NITI Aayog, Prof. Das shared a comprehensive roadmap for the country’s development and regional rejuvenation in an interview on April 25. He clearly stated that his goal is not merely to hold a position but to advance the vision of making India a developed nation by 2047, as envisioned by Prime Minister Modi.
Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister for this responsibility, Prof. Das stated that it is a matter of pride not just for him but for the entire Bengali community. He assured that he would contribute to the nation’s development with utmost sincerity and hard work.
Referring to his home state of West Bengal, he noted that it has been the land of great thinkers and luminaries. He mentioned notable figures such as Rabindranath Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Subhas Chandra Bose, Syama Prasad Mukherjee, and scientist Meghnad Saha, stating that Bengal is often referred to as ‘Sonar Bangla.’
He also expressed concern that the current state of education and healthcare in West Bengal is not as robust as it should be. This has forced many to seek employment and better services in other states. He emphasized the need for change and how the NITI Aayog can play a crucial role in bridging this gap.
Prof. Das further stated that to make India self-reliant and a global power, the principle of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ must be the foundation of policy-making. He cited the COVID-19 pandemic as an example of how the country demonstrated its scientific capability by developing indigenous vaccines.
He also mentioned that his focus will not only be on economic growth but on holistic development, which includes strengthening employment, industry, and the manufacturing sector. His goal is to ensure that the benefits of development reach every citizen, leaving no one behind.
