Surat, June 7: A tragic incident occurred in Surat, where four individuals lost their lives due to exposure to toxic gas at a jewelry cleaning factory. The victims included three workers and one supervisor. The accident took place while they were cleaning an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) tank located underground. All four succumbed to the gas on-site.

DCP Alok Kumar from Zone-1 reported that the factory regularly cleans the waste collected in the tank after the jewelry cleaning process. On Sunday, three workers and a supervisor went to clean the tank. During the cleaning, one worker fell into the tank and lost consciousness. The other two workers attempted to rescue him but also became unconscious.

DCP Kumar stated that the supervisor called the fire department for assistance. However, by the time the fire team arrived, the supervisor had also fallen into the tank. The incident resulted in the deaths of all four individuals. An investigation is underway to determine whether safety equipment was used during the operation. CCTV footage revealed that no safety gear was worn.
