PM Modi Reiterates Commitment to Womens Reservation in Legislative Bodies

New Delhi, April 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed women across the nation through a letter, expressing gratitude for the support received regarding the initiative to provide reservation for women in legislative bodies. He reassured the ‘Nari Shakti’ that the government is fully committed to implementing this significant step, which has been pending for decades.

In his letter, the Prime Minister highlighted that April holds historical significance as it marks the birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar. He recalled Baba Saheb B.R. Ambedkar’s contributions to the Constitution, which continue to guide the country today.

The Prime Minister noted that Indian women are making their mark in every field, representing one of the most positive images of our time. He cited examples from startups, science, education, sports, art, and culture, emphasizing the increasing participation of women. Particularly in sports, women from smaller towns are setting new records, inspiring future generations.

He mentioned that numerous self-help groups and ‘Lakhpati Didis’ are empowering women at the grassroots level, demonstrating that collective efforts can lead to significant change. The Prime Minister referred to history, recalling that years ago, Sardar Patel initiated the reservation of seats for women in the Ahmedabad Municipality. After independence, India granted equal voting rights to men and women, while many countries struggled for this right.

Modi stated that efforts have been made over the past decades to enhance women’s participation, but they have not been entirely successful. Therefore, providing adequate representation for women in legislative institutions has become a pressing demand.

He emphasized that by 2047, when India celebrates 100 years of independence, women’s participation will be crucial to achieving the goal of a ‘Developed India.’ When women actively engage in policy-making and decision-making processes, the country’s progress will accelerate.

The Prime Minister introduced the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,’ aimed at ensuring reservation for women. He expressed hope that this constitutional amendment would be passed in Parliament soon.

In his letter, he urged women to write to their respective MPs to advocate for this bill, as it will impact the future of many generations. He also extended his best wishes to all women for the upcoming festivals, wishing them good health, happiness, and prosperity.
