Mahua Maaji Warns Regional Parties to Stay Cautious of BJP

Ranchi, April 14: Mahua Maaji, a Member of Parliament from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has launched a strong attack on the BJP following Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s resignation. She urged regional parties to remain vigilant against the BJP’s tactics.

In a conversation in Ranchi, Maaji stated that the BJP’s behavior has been evident from the beginning. Any regional party that has trusted the BJP and formed an alliance has nearly lost its existence.

Referring to Odisha, Maaji noted the example of the BJD, which supported the BJP but was betrayed when many of its MPs were persuaded to resign and join the BJP. She emphasized that while Nitish Kumar received a mandate in Bihar, there are attempts to sideline him by sending him to the Rajya Sabha. This move is a direct insult to the people’s mandate, as the BJP aims to install its own Chief Minister.

On the Women’s Reservation Bill, Maaji expressed her long-standing support. She highlighted that they had consistently demanded women’s reservation even before the bill was introduced. During the inauguration of the new Parliament building ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a special session was called to discuss the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, which brought joy among women anticipating reserved seats in upcoming elections. However, it was later announced that this reservation would only be implemented in 2029.

On the occasion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s 135th birth anniversary, Maaji stated that the call for justice for women was first made by Ambedkar. Today, it is perhaps due to his efforts that women have made significant progress. She mentioned that they are heading to Delhi to discuss issues related to the Women’s Reservation Bill.

Following Nitish Kumar’s resignation, Samrat Chaudhary has been elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party. He will now lead Bihar’s double-engine government under his guidance.
