BJP Claims Victory in Karnataka By-Elections Despite Congresss Efforts

Bengaluru, April 14: The President of the BJP’s Karnataka unit, B.Y. Vijayendra, stated on Tuesday that no matter how much the Congress and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah try to promote their agenda, they will not win in the recent by-elections held in the state.

Speaking to reporters, Vijayendra expressed confidence that the BJP would secure victories in both the Davanagere South and Bagalkot constituencies.

He accused the public of growing weary of the Congress government, citing a complete breakdown in administrative systems and a significant lack of development initiatives.

Vijayendra further alleged that the state government was engaging in politics aimed at appeasing minorities while disrespecting Hindus, which he believes will lead the public to support the BJP.

He also challenged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to a public debate, suggesting a comparison of development achievements during the tenure of BJP’s B.S. Yediyurappa in Shivamogga district versus those under Siddaramaiah in Mysuru district.

Additionally, he criticized the government for its failure to protect ‘Mysore Silk’, claiming it is attempting to replace it with a stadium on the same land.

Vijayendra asserted that regardless of Congress leaders’ speeches, the results on May 4 during the vote count will clearly reflect the people’s decision.

Notably, the main contest in Bagalkot is between Congress candidate Umesh Meti and BJP candidate Veeranna Charantimath, necessitated by the death of Congress MLA H.Y. Meti.

In Davanagere South, Congress has fielded Samarth Mallikarjun, while the BJP has nominated Srinivas T. Dasakariyappa. Meanwhile, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) hopes to benefit from the fierce competition between the BJP and Congress, having nominated Afsar Kodlipet for the elections, which were called due to the passing of senior Congress leader and MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa.

These by-elections have become a matter of prestige for both national parties, with the results being crucial for Vijayendra, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress President D.K. Shivakumar.
