Vadodara, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his admiration for the citizens of Vadodara during a recent event. Speaking at the ‘Namo for Developed India’ program at Maharaja Sayajirao University, he highlighted the city’s cleanliness campaign as a model of public participation. He called on residents to maintain these efforts through the upcoming Ganesh Festival, Navratri, and Diwali.
Modi shared that he had watched videos showcasing the city’s cleanliness efforts and felt a sense of pride. “I was watching a video yesterday, and my chest swelled with pride—Wow, my Vadodara!” he remarked, referring to the cleanliness work conducted before his visit under the theme ‘Welcoming with Cleanliness’.
He thanked the community for their warm welcome, noting that the initiative had fostered a spirit of cleanliness in every household over the past week. Modi linked this campaign to the festive calendar, stating that with Ganesh Chaturthi and Navratri approaching, blessings would surely shower upon Vadodara.
The Prime Minister urged the public to transform this temporary cleanliness initiative into a lasting commitment. Speaking in Gujarati, he encouraged residents to ensure that the city remains clean, saying, “Let us pledge that we will not allow Vadodara to become dirty again.”
The cleanliness campaign took place on September 8, just before Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects worth over ₹35,000 crores. The Vadodara Municipal Corporation led a city-wide cleanliness and environmental initiative, involving sanitation workers, citizens, officials, representatives, educational institutions, and NGOs.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel noted the active participation of sanitation workers and residents in cleaning streets and public spaces. He mentioned that 2 million plants were distributed as part of environmental activities.
Modi praised the collective efforts of sanitation workers and citizens, emphasizing that their involvement demonstrated how cleanliness can serve as a form of welcome. This initiative added a new dimension of citizen participation to an event that also included significant infrastructure announcements, such as the completion of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, new rail services, highway projects, and initiatives in housing, water supply, urban development, and renewable energy.
Additionally, a digital public entry system was launched for the event, with free registration on BookMyShow. All available seats were filled within an hour, resulting in over 42,000 applicants being placed on a waiting list.
