New Delhi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel has raised serious concerns about voter fraud in India. Speaking to the media in New Delhi, he accused the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, of facilitating a theft of the public mandate. Baghel’s comments came after a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting where various national issues were discussed, including the Election Commission‘s Special Intensive Review (SIR) campaign.
Baghel emphasized that the upcoming meeting of the Indi Alliance would focus on strategies related to the SIR campaign. He expressed alarm over the opposition’s ongoing concerns regarding issues related to the electoral rolls, stating that a thorough discussion is essential.
He claimed that there is widespread vote theft occurring across the country, linking this to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Baghel stated that whether it’s the 2024 Lok Sabha elections or the elections in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, there is an alarming trend of open vote theft. He further alleged that similar issues have been reported in Bihar, Haryana, and Maharashtra, where names of 13 million people have been removed from the voter lists.
Baghel pointed out that marginalized groups, including Dalits, women, and minorities, are particularly affected by these deletions. He noted that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been consistently presenting evidence to the public regarding these allegations.
Addressing the rationale behind the SIR campaign, Baghel questioned the government’s previous claims about identifying and removing foreign nationals. He challenged the effectiveness of the campaign by asking how many illegal immigrants have been apprehended despite elections occurring in states like Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam.
In response to inquiries about the ongoing CBI investigation into the Bhilai Steel Plant scrap scam, Baghel criticized the agency’s lack of progress, suggesting that it has become ineffective. He called for impartial investigations based on facts, arguing that central agencies should not be politicized.
Baghel concluded by reiterating the need for transparency in the electoral process, as the Congress party continues to raise concerns about the integrity of the voter lists and overall electoral fairness.
