
New Delhi, August 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the passing of A. Balakrishnan, the former president of the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Vivekananda Kendra. Modi recalled Balakrishnan’s significant contributions to social service, stating that he dedicated over five decades of his life to the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and the service of the nation.
The Prime Minister noted, “He had a special connection with the Northeast. He played a crucial role in educational, social, and nation-building activities.”
On Thursday, Modi shared an old photo with Balakrishnan on the social media platform X, expressing his deep sadness over the loss. He wrote, “I am profoundly saddened by the passing of A. Balakrishnan, who served as the president of Vivekananda Kendra. He dedicated over five decades of his life to the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and social service. As one of the early life members of Vivekananda Kendra, he worked tirelessly across the country, especially connected to the Northeast.”
He further added, “He played an important role in educational, social, and nation-building activities. My heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Vivekananda Kendra family and his admirers.”
In addition to PM Modi, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also expressed his condolences. He posted on X, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of A. Balakrishnan, president of the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Vivekananda Kendra. His selfless service, especially his significant contributions to education in Arunachal Pradesh, will always be remembered by the people of Arunachal Pradesh and the entire nation. He was a true Karmayogi, symbolizing the spirit of service. My deep condolences to his family and loved ones.”
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta shared her grief on X, stating, “The news of the passing of A. Balakrishnan, who dedicated his life to the service of the nation by embodying the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, is extremely painful. He devoted over five decades to national work, social awakening, education, and organization-building, particularly in Northeast India. His contributions will always be remembered as an inspiring tradition of national service. May God grant him a place at His feet and give the Vivekananda Kendra family, workers, and countless well-wishers the strength to bear this immense sorrow.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also expressed his condolences, stating, “I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of revered A. Balakrishnan, president of Vivekananda Kendra. As a true Karmayogi and dedicated worker, he devoted his entire life to national service. From the shores of Kanyakumari to the banks of the Brahmaputra in Assam, he energized Vivekananda Kendra across the country. His contributions to education in Assam and Northeast India will always be remembered. A heartfelt tribute to a true patriot.”
