Kathmandu, August 27: The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) reported on Wednesday that a total of 644 tourists, including 517 foreigners, are currently missing due to flash floods. This figure has risen from an earlier report that indicated 291 foreign tourists were unaccounted for.
According to the list, citizens from 33 countries, including 178 from India, are among the missing. The NTB shared this information on the social media platform ‘X’, stating that following devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, the Nepalese government, along with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, the NTB, tourist police, and other stakeholders are actively working to locate the tourists and travelers who were in or traveling through the affected areas. Efforts are underway to rescue those injured or stranded.
The list is based on initial information gathered from tracking and travel companies. Reports indicate that 644 tourists are missing from the disaster-stricken areas, which also include Nepali travelers. The updated list confirms that the NTB is collaborating with travel agencies, guides, local authorities, and security agencies to verify and investigate this information.
The board noted that four districts along the banks of the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers have experienced significant devastation, while other areas remain safe. The missing list shared on social media shows that the highest number of missing individuals are from India, totaling 178. Following India, Nepal has 127 missing, the United States has 65, and Ukraine has 53 citizens reported missing.
Search operations continue amidst adverse weather and damaged roads. Meanwhile, the Nepalese army successfully rescued 116 individuals from Timure in Rasuwagadhi on Thursday morning, including 21 Indians.
