Mumbai, June 19: In a significant move to promote job creation and strengthen social security systems, the central government launched the ambitious Prime Minister’s Developed India Employment Scheme (PMVBRY) on Friday at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed benefits worth approximately ₹2,400 crore to millions of beneficiaries across the country.
The event was attended by Union Minister of Labour and Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje. Nearly 200 parallel events were connected to the main ceremony via video conferencing, held in various states and industrial hubs.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of job creation, skill development, and enhancing social security for building a developed India. He stated that the government is continuously striving to provide more formal employment opportunities for youth and connect workers to social security schemes.
Under the PMVBRY scheme, first-time job seekers are eligible for an incentive amount equivalent to one month’s EPF salary, capped at ₹15,000. Additionally, eligible employers providing extra employment can receive up to ₹3,000 per month for each additional employee.
The central government has allocated a budget of ₹99,446 crore for this scheme. It aims to create over 3.5 crore jobs nationwide from August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2027. The government believes that this initiative will not only provide formal employment to youth but also expand the reach of social security schemes.
Alongside the main event, regional programs across the country involved beneficiaries, industry representatives, employers, and labor organization representatives. During these events, appointment letters were distributed to newly appointed employees, and information was shared about EPFO facilities, labor welfare schemes, and recent labor reforms.
At a regional event held at the ICAI auditorium in Bandra, Mumbai, Ashish Shelar, Maharashtra’s Minister of Information Technology, Electronics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Cultural Affairs, was the chief guest. Senior officials, including the Director General of DG-FASLI Vikas Chand Chaturvedi, Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner Sanjay Dabi, and EPFO Regional Provident Fund Commissioner-1 Ritesh Saini, were also present.
It was announced that around one lakh beneficiaries in Maharashtra would benefit from this scheme. During the Mumbai ceremony, appointment letters were presented to ten beneficiaries.
The central government expressed confidence that the PMVBRY scheme will play a crucial role in creating new employment opportunities in the country, promoting formal employment, and bringing more workers under the umbrella of social security. This initiative is considered a significant and far-reaching step towards the goal of a developed India.
