Victoria, June 29: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for New Delhi after completing a three-day visit to Seychelles. During the final phase of his trip, PM Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Earlier, he offered prayers at the Navshakti Vinayagar Temple.
On Monday, PM Modi laid flowers at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Peace Park, Seychelles. He also interacted with the Indian community that gathered to welcome him, chanting slogans like “Modi Modi” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”
The Prime Minister shared several pictures on the social media platform X. In his post, he wrote, “Paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Peace Park in Victoria. Bapu’s ideals have inspired generations, uniting people in the pursuit of peace, justice, and human dignity. His thoughts continue to motivate our collective efforts for a better world.”
Before this, PM Modi prayed at the Navshakti Vinayagar Temple. He spoke with the Indian community gathered outside the temple. Sharing a photo on X, he stated, “Prayed at the Arulmigu Navshakti Vinayagar Temple in Victoria, the principal Hindu temple of Seychelles. May Lord Ganesha bless everyone with wisdom, strength, and prosperity.”
In another post featuring pictures with the Indian community, he expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Seychelles Hindu Kovil Sangam in establishing the temple and promoting various aspects of Indian culture and spirituality in Seychelles.
Prior to PM Modi’s arrival at the temple, members of the Indian community shared their excitement with news agencies, highlighting the extensive preparations made for his visit, coinciding with Seychelles’ 50th National Day celebrations.
One community member remarked, “We are thrilled that Prime Minister Modi is here for the 50th Independence Day. All arrangements are in place. We will pray for his long life at the temple and hope he continues to serve the people of India. We have also organized cultural programs to welcome him.”
Another member, Shashi, expressed enthusiasm about PM Modi’s visit, stating, “The Indian community in Seychelles is very excited. We are happy to welcome him. There are strong bilateral ties between India and Seychelles, and we hope to strengthen this relationship during his visit.”
Dhanalakshmi, another community member, felt honored by the Prime Minister’s visit. She mentioned, “I work closely with the government on various initiatives. We also hope that considering the strong bilateral relations, the Indian government will assist in the development of the temple’s infrastructure.”
Meanwhile, Seychelles’ National Day celebrations commenced with a parade, featuring PM Modi as the chief guest. Seychellois soldiers parachuted into the venue with the national flag, as people joyfully celebrated the 50th anniversary of their independence. PM Modi arrived in Seychelles on Saturday at the invitation of President Dr. Patrick Herminie.
