Auckland, July 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian community during his visit to New Zealand on Friday. He highlighted New Zealand as a nation that honors talents from other countries and provides them with opportunities. Modi emphasized the partnership between India and New Zealand in the field of sports.
He referred to New Zealand as a generous country that values talent. During his speech, he mentioned Indian-origin players Rachin Ravindra, Ish Sodhi, and Ajaz Patel, who are currently part of the New Zealand cricket team.
Modi recalled that 100 years ago, India’s hockey team visited New Zealand, where Major Dhyan Chand’s performance garnered widespread acclaim, winning the hearts of the New Zealanders.
The Prime Minister expressed the immense potential for collaboration in sports between India and New Zealand. He stated, “I just learned that the All Blacks have achieved a remarkable victory in rugby. India wants to learn rugby from New Zealand. We need experts and coaches to advance in rugby, and New Zealand can assist us. I consider the recent coaching program between New Zealand Rugby and India Rugby in Bhubaneswar a great start.”
Before arriving in New Zealand, Modi attended a sports startup event where he was impressed by the innovation and new ideas presented. He noted that there is much we can achieve together in sports technology.
