Champawat, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Dehradun has warned of heavy rainfall in Champawat district on September 5, 2026. Given the ongoing rain and rising water levels in rivers and streams, the district administration has made a significant decision to prioritize student safety.
District Magistrate Manish Kumar, who also chairs the District Disaster Management Authority, announced a one-day holiday for all government, aided, and recognized private schools, as well as Anganwadi centers, for students from grades 1 to 12. This closure is in accordance with the Disaster Management Act of 2005.
In light of the weather forecast, all educational institutions and Anganwadi centers in the district will be completely closed on September 5. To minimize disruption to students’ studies, teaching will continue through online platforms.
The District Magistrate has instructed the Chief Education Officer and the District Program Officer of Champawat to ensure strict compliance with this order across all educational institutions and Anganwadi centers.
Additionally, the IMD has indicated the likelihood of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Pauri Garhwal. In response to this, District Magistrate Swati S. Bhadauria has also declared a one-day holiday for all government, semi-government, and private schools, as well as all Anganwadi centers for students from grades 1 to 12.
She emphasized that this decision was made as a precaution against potential heavy rain, lightning, and swift water flow in rivers and streams. The District Magistrate has directed all relevant officials, including the Chief Education Officer and District Education Officer, to ensure adherence to this order.
Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions, stay away from rivers and streams, and follow the guidelines issued by the weather department and district administration.
