New Delhi, April 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the conservation of flamingos and their natural habitat during the 133rd episode of his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on Sunday.
In this episode, PM Modi remarked, “As the monsoon ends, the land of Kutch comes alive. Every year, millions of flamingos arrive here, turning the area pink, which is why it is called Flamingo City. These birds build their nests and raise their young here. The people of Kutch refer to them as ‘Lakhaji’s guests.’ Now, these guests have become beautiful symbols of environmental conservation in Kutch.”
He emphasized that once the monsoon is over, the region becomes vibrant with life as millions of flamingos flock to the area to nest and nurture their chicks.
Additionally, PM Modi praised the Northeast region, calling it an embodiment of Ashtalakshmi, rich in talent and natural beauty. He mentioned that the achievements of the people from the Northeast are often highlighted in ‘Mann Ki Baat.’ He shared an inspiring story about the bamboo sector in the Northeast, which has transformed from a burden into a source of employment, business, and innovation, benefiting many women in the region.
He also shared good news from Central India, stating that blackbucks have been sighted again in Chhattisgarh. Their numbers had dwindled, but continuous conservation efforts have led to their resurgence in the open fields.
Furthermore, PM Modi spoke about a collaborative story between humans and wildlife from Uttar Pradesh. During the harvest season, herds of elephants approach villages, increasing the risk of conflict. However, initiatives like “Gaj Mitra” have been launched in Uttar Pradesh to address this issue.
