New Delhi, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : Central Minister Piyush Goyal, alongside Lalan Singh, held a press conference in New Delhi where they launched a sharp critique of Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Goyal labeled Gandhi as the “biggest red flag” for the Congress party, stating that numerous party leaders are voicing their concerns against him.
Goyal accused Congress of questioning the impartiality of the Election Commission while ignoring its own track record. He raised concerns about Gandhi’s attitude and his attempts to undermine various aspects of the Constitution.
“Many Congress leaders are speaking out against Rahul Gandhi. Shashi Tharoor has mentioned that the party’s success in Kerala was due to the SIR (State Intervention Report). Ramesh Chennithala echoed this sentiment, and even the Chief Minister of Kerala praised the SIR. Additionally, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury commended the Election Commission for conducting fair elections in West Bengal, yet their own party is making baseless claims of vote theft,” Goyal stated.
He emphasized that under Prime Minister Modi‘s leadership, the NDA government has granted the Election Commission complete autonomy to operate in the interest of the nation and its citizens. There has been no attempt to provide political favors to Election Commission officials, allowing them to work with integrity.
Discussing Congress’s past, Goyal pointed out that Rahul Gandhi’s record includes appointing a Chief Election Commissioner as a party candidate, bringing another into the Union Cabinet, and appointing two former Chief Election Commissioners as governors. He noted that when a Chief Election Commissioner claimed that an Election Commissioner was acting as a Congress agent, the party refused to dismiss him. “Such bias is rarely seen in any government,” he remarked.
Goyal also recalled how Congress has historically praised the integrity of former Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan while simultaneously offering him a ticket to contest elections in 1999. “Wasn’t that rewarding him for his loyalty?” he questioned.
He further cited examples of former Election Commissioners receiving honors and positions after retirement, suggesting that Congress has severely compromised the integrity of the Election Commission and misused its officials.
Goyal concluded by highlighting the changes made by the Modi government in 2023, which included appointing the Leader of the Opposition as a member of the selection committee responsible for choosing the Chief Election Commissioner, ensuring a more balanced approach.
