NDA Leaders Criticize Rahul Gandhis Protests Against Election Commissioner

NDA leaders respond to Rahul Gandhis protests, accusing him of undermining constitutional institutions and questioning his behavior during demonstrations.

New Delhi, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : Rahul Gandhi has been leading continuous protests under the India Block coalition, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the cancellation of the Special Intensive Review (SIR). During a march from Barakhamba Road to the Supreme Court, Congress claimed that the nation stands with Gandhi. In response, NDA leaders criticized Gandhi, stating that questioning constitutional institutions has become a habit for him.

Central Minister Annapurna Devi condemned Gandhi for allegedly pushing a female journalist to the ground during the protests. She expressed shock at the behavior of the Leader of the Opposition, stating that such insensitivity is unacceptable. Devi also referenced Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, questioning the absence of her slogan “I’m a girl, I can fight” in light of her brother’s actions.

Devi further asked if Priyanka Gandhi advises her brother on appropriate conduct towards women. She accused Rahul Gandhi of previously mistreating Delhi police officers and now engaging in a similar incident with a journalist at the Supreme Court. Such behavior, she argued, is unbecoming of the Leader of the Opposition.

Satish Chandra Dubey, a central state minister, remarked that if the opposition has suggestions, they should express them calmly and constructively. While acknowledging the right to protest in a democracy, he criticized the opposition for misleading the public under the guise of dissent. Dubey claimed that the opposition is hindering the nation’s progress towards becoming a developed country.

He also accused Rahul Gandhi of creating a negative atmosphere in the country. Dubey noted that Gyanesh Kumar was appointed in 2025 and pointed out that the opposition tends to question the election commission only after losing elections, praising it when they win.

BJP leader Shah Nawaz Hussain addressed the issue of protest sites, stating that when demonstrators gather in unsanctioned areas, it disrupts law and order and inconveniences the public. He emphasized that designated locations for protests, such as Burari and Ramleela Maidan, should be adhered to.

Regarding the India Block’s march, Hussain claimed that despite gathering supporters, the turnout was not significant. He argued that the opposition’s actions regarding the election commission are understood by the public, who are aware of their shifting statements based on election outcomes. Hussain reiterated that questioning constitutional institutions has become a pattern for Rahul Gandhi.

JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan noted that the Chief Justice of India had previously rejected a request for a meeting, stating it would not align with constitutional norms. He mentioned that the issues raised by the opposition are already pending in the Supreme Court.

Bihar Minister Pramod Kumar criticized the protesters, suggesting they are influenced by leftist ideologies and receiving guidance from Islamabad rather than India. He stated that some individuals continue to raise human rights concerns even in such circumstances, labeling the protesters as restless and irrational. Kumar argued that the Supreme Court is not an appropriate venue for demonstrations, questioning the opposition’s understanding of constitutional norms.

He also targeted Rahul Gandhi’s behavior, mentioning his unpredictable public displays of affection and actions that raise eyebrows. Kumar stated that he had never heard of protests occurring within the Supreme Court complex and expressed confusion regarding the objectives of the opposition’s demonstration, reflecting on his own experiences from student movements.
