Riyadh, October 13 (Daily Kiran) : The Saudi-led coalition has announced plans for a special operation in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, currently under Houthi control. On Tuesday, coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki indicated that a warning for civilians to evacuate would be issued soon, although he did not specify the exact locations or details of the operation.
On the same day, the coalition reported intercepting and destroying three drones launched towards Riyadh. In a counterclaim, the Houthi group asserted that it had conducted a ballistic missile attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Monday evening.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sari stated that the missile struck its target accurately. He also claimed that the group targeted the King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait, Saudi Arabia, with a drone strike.
However, the Saudi-led coalition countered that its forces successfully intercepted the Houthi missile aimed at Riyadh, neutralizing the threat before impact. Residents in Riyadh reported hearing explosions, and alerts were sent out via mobile apps during the incident.
The escalating conflict has raised concerns both regionally and internationally. During a weekly press conference, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bakai reiterated Tehran’s willingness to facilitate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis. This statement followed a phone call on Sunday between Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, where Araghchi offered Iran’s support in initiating talks between the two sides.
