Triprayar, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Andhra Pradesh‘s Deputy Chief Minister and Janasena Party leader Pawan Kalyan visited the renowned Triprayar Sri Ramaswamy Temple in Kerala on Friday. The temple is among the significant sites connected to the famous Nalambalam pilgrimage.
Following temple traditions, Kalyan took part in several special religious rituals, honoring deities including Sri Ramaswamy, Lord Krishna, and Lord Ayyappa. He participated in the important Deepa Aradhana ceremony, where he made a donation for a day’s service and lit lamps himself. Kalyan also kindled the main lamp at the Krishna temple located near the temple’s main entrance.
In addition to the Deepa Aradhana, the Deputy Chief Minister engaged in traditional rituals such as Meenuttu and Vedi Vazhippadu. During the Meenuttu ceremony, he fed fish in the nearby Theevra River, an act believed to be equivalent to offering to Lord Vishnu’s Matsya avatar. Kalyan was seen with the conch, discus, and bow, and he participated in the evening prayers at the temple.
He presented silk garments to the idols of Lord Krishna, Sri Ramaswamy, and Lord Ayyappa. Kalyan also performed special prayers for the deities Dakshinamurti, Lord Ganesha, and the Sheshashayi Anantapadmanabha. After completing the rituals, the chief priest, Raman Thirumeni, offered him blessed offerings and blessings.
Upon his arrival, Kalyan was traditionally welcomed by the president of the Cochin Devaswom Board, members of the temple committee, the commissioner of the Devaswom department, temple administration, and priests. Before visiting Sri Ramaswamy, he participated in the Meenuttu ceremony at the Krishna temple located in the northern part of the temple complex.
Kalyan later joined the Vedi Vazhippadu ceremony, which traditionally involves the bursting of firecrackers. This custom has been a long-standing tradition at the Triprayar Temple. According to legend, when Hanuman informed Lord Rama of Sita’s whereabouts, Rama expressed his joy with a sound akin to firecrackers. This tradition continues today with the Vedi Vazhippadu.
He contributed to the arrangement of 1,001 firecrackers for this service. Later, Kalyan visited the temple dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, revered as Shasta, where he received blessed offerings.
According to temple beliefs, the idol of Lord Rama at Triprayar was worshipped by Lord Krishna during the Dvapara Yuga. It is also said that after the city of Dwarka submerged in the sea, the idols of Rama, Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna were discovered on the shores of Kerala.
Currently, Pawan Kalyan is in Kerala for treatment at an Ayurvedic center located near the temple. He took the opportunity to participate in prayers and various religious ceremonies during his visit.
