Beijing, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, addressed the assembly during its 81st session on October 9, 2026. He emphasized the importance of revitalizing the General Assembly and presented a three-pronged proposal aimed at enhancing its effectiveness.
Fu highlighted that the General Assembly is the most representative body of the UN and serves as a critical platform for promoting multilateralism and global governance. He noted that today’s world is fraught with complexities and numerous challenges.
To strengthen the General Assembly’s operations, Fu suggested that it must enhance consensus-building, reinforce unity, fulfill obligations set forth by the UN Charter, and improve the quality and efficiency of the organization.
His three proposals include:
First, recognizing the UN Charter as the fundamental guiding principle and actively adjusting the direction of UN activities.
Second, adopting unity and cooperation as the main approach, consolidating efforts to promote the development of the UN.
Third, embracing practical reforms as the driving force for progress to ensure the effective implementation of UN tasks.
This initiative reflects China’s commitment to fostering a more effective and united UN framework.
