Chandigarh, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : Former Haryana Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Sharma has made significant remarks regarding Congress’s strategy and leadership as the state approaches elections. He stated that if Congress workers unite under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, they stand a strong chance of defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Sharma welcomed former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s recent statement that the party’s chief ministerial candidate could come from any caste, emphasizing that the decision will be made by the high command. He viewed this acknowledgment as a personal moral victory.
“I urge Congress to contest the elections under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. I appreciate Bhupinder Singh Hooda for recognizing my letter and publicly affirming that Congress does not decide the chief ministerial position based on caste,” Sharma said. He added that the high command will determine who will lead Haryana after the elections.
He expressed a desire for Hooda to have mentioned that candidates could also come from Other Backward Classes (OBC) or Scheduled Castes (SC/ST), as this would send a powerful message. Sharma noted that Gandhi’s push for caste-based census has compelled the BJP to acknowledge the issue, framing it as part of Gandhi’s campaign.
Sharma stressed the importance of representation for backward classes, stating, “The more significant the number, the greater the partnership. This is crucial for Congress to gain ground against the BJP.” He highlighted that a substantial conference focused on OBC issues had recently occurred in Haryana, marking a long-awaited moment for the community.
He concluded by saying that every community has its own dynamics in the Haryana elections, and Congress must adapt to these realities. Sharma thanked Hooda for his courageous statement, asserting that if Congress workers stand united behind Rahul Gandhi, they can indeed overcome the BJP in the upcoming elections.
