New Delhi, February 22: The student union elections at Patna University have been postponed. The voting was originally scheduled for February 28.

In an official statement, the university cited recent incidents of misconduct and unexpected events on campus. These included unauthorized entry and protests by a group of students at Patna Women’s College, as well as violations of the election code of conduct, such as the use of printed banners and posters, the use of expensive vehicles, and campaigning before the designated time.

Additionally, the statement referenced an incident on January 21, where students displayed unruly behavior towards a teacher and university officials during a class at Patna Science College.

Given these occurrences, Patna University has decided to postpone the 2025-26 student union elections until further notice.

The postponement has stirred unrest among student organizations and candidates, who were actively preparing for the elections. However, it remains unclear when the elections will now take place. The university appears to be sending a strong message regarding discipline.

Supporters of the NSUI forcibly entered Patna Women’s College, brandishing banners and chanting slogans in support of their candidates, which escalated the controversy.

For the major positions, there were 16 nominations for president, 9 for vice president, 9 for general secretary, 8 for joint secretary, and 9 for treasurer. Additionally, a total of 54 nominations were submitted for 22 councilor positions from various constituencies.
