Owaisi Calls for Postponement of Exams on Bakrid Day

Hyderabad, May 17: Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of AIMIM and Member of Parliament from Hyderabad, has urged Telangana’s Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and the Chief Secretary to postpone the degree examinations at Osmania University scheduled for Bakrid (Eid-ul-Azha) day.

Owaisi took to social media platform X to express his concerns, noting that several semester exams for BA, BCom, and BSc are set for May 28, coinciding with the celebration of Eid-ul-Azha.

He emphasized that holding exams on a festival day would cause significant inconvenience for students, putting them in a difficult position. Owaisi expressed hope that these exams would be rescheduled to a more suitable date.

The exams in question include Business Statistics for the BCom fourth semester, Accounting Standards and Corporate Governance for the BCom sixth semester, Computer Science (Big Data) for the BSc Honors fourth semester, Optimization Techniques for the BSc Honors sixth semester, Biomedical Science for the BSc fourth semester, Mathematics for the BA (CBCS) sixth semester, and Social Work Methodology-3 for the BSW (CBCS) fourth semester.

In light of Bakrid, Telangana’s Director General of Police C.V. Anand stated that the police department is taking stringent measures to maintain peace, law, and communal harmony during the upcoming festival.

The DGP held a video conference with police commissioners and SPs from all districts, alongside senior officials from various departments, including Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary of the Municipal and Urban Development Department, and the Secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department. He mentioned that, following decisions made in review meetings with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, police officials have been instructed to strictly prevent illegal transportation and smuggling of animals during Bakrid.

Anand highlighted that Bakrid is a sensitive festival from a law and order perspective, necessitating heightened vigilance to avert any communal tensions or disputes. This video conference was convened in response to recent incidents of illegal animal transport to ensure proper implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
