Patna, February 17: In Samastipur, Bihar, over 500 consumers have benefited from the ‘PM Surya Home Free Electricity Scheme.’ Under this initiative, solar panels have been installed in the homes of 550 individuals, with approximately 4,000 people applying to take advantage of the scheme.

Anand Kumar, the Executive Engineer of the electricity department, stated that this beneficial scheme, launched by Prime Minister Modi, aims to provide benefits to all consumers. Interested individuals only need to apply, and the government offers subsidies for solar panels ranging from one to three kilowatts.

To receive free electricity, consumers must install solar panels on their rooftops. A one-kilowatt solar panel installation qualifies for a subsidy of ₹30,000, while a two-kilowatt panel earns a subsidy of ₹60,000, and a three-kilowatt panel receives ₹78,000.

Kumar emphasized the importance of encouraging consumers to take advantage of this scheme. He noted that the ambitious initiative has already benefited many residents in the district. Notably, 15 consumers have reported zero electricity bills, and they were honored with certificates at a fair held at Patel Maidan.

During this fair, consumers received information about the ‘PM Surya Home Free Electricity Scheme.’ Bank representatives were also present to provide guidance on financing solar panel installations.

According to the Executive Engineer, the district received 3,970 applications for solar panel installations, and 550 have already been completed. A total of 511 consumers have received subsidies.

To qualify for the ‘PM Surya Home Free Electricity Scheme,’ applicants must be Indian citizens with a suitable rooftop for panel installation. They must also have an electricity connection and should not have availed of any other subsidies for solar panels.
