Lucknow, June 26: Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, stated on Thursday that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate the alleged donation theft at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is merely a façade.
Kejriwal visited Ayodhya on Thursday and plans to visit the Ram Temple on Friday. Speaking to reporters, he expressed his concerns regarding media reports that claim various items, including shoes, garlands, lamps, jewelry, diamonds, and even offerings, have been stolen. Allegations suggest that around ₹200 crore in cash and approximately 2 kilograms of silver have also been misappropriated. “This news deeply saddens me, and millions of devotees are hurt by it,” he remarked.
Referencing an old video, he pointed out, “I mentioned yesterday that even if ₹100 is stolen, an FIR is filed. Yet, despite the theft of crores, no FIR has been registered, although some amount has been recovered.”
Kejriwal emphasized that an SIT cannot be formed without an FIR. He stated, “The Code of Criminal Procedure specifies that an SIT is established only after an FIR is filed.”
He raised questions about the legality of the SIT’s formation, asking, “Under which law has this SIT been created? This team has no authority to investigate. Therefore, this SIT is merely a tactic to mislead the public. It has been formed to protect influential individuals.”
Kejriwal asserted that such a significant and prolonged theft would not be possible without the support of powerful figures.
Alok Kumar, president of the Vishva Hindu Parishad, also called for an immediate FIR to be filed in this matter. He stated that any discrepancies in the donations made to the Ram Temple hurt the faith of the Hindu community.
