Kamakhya Temple Reopens After Ambubachi Mela, Millions of Devotees Expected

New Delhi, June 26: The renowned Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam, will reopen for devotees on Friday following the conclusion of the annual Ambubachi Mela. The temple was closed for three days to observe traditional religious practices associated with the goddess Kamakhya’s annual menstrual cycle.

The temple doors were shut on June 22 at 9:08:42 PM during the ‘Pravritti’ ritual. It is believed that during this time, the goddess remains in her annual menstrual state, leading to a complete ban on devotees entering the sanctum sanctorum and the suspension of regular worship.

On Friday morning, after the daily rituals, the temple will open its doors for devotees to seek blessings from the goddess Kamakhya.

The temple administration has made extensive arrangements to accommodate millions of devotees, saints, and tourists arriving from across the country and abroad. Enhanced security, traffic management, lodging, and other essential facilities have been put in place.

The Ambubachi Mela is considered one of the most significant religious events related to the worship of Shakti. This festival symbolizes Mother Earth’s fertility and creative power. According to religious belief, during this period, Goddess Kamakhya, a symbol of feminine power and creation, undergoes her annual menstrual cycle.

Situated on the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati, the Kamakhya Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and is regarded as a highly sacred pilgrimage site, especially for followers of tantric traditions.

After the reopening, devotees will also receive sacred Angodak and Angavastra (sacred cloth), which are considered highly auspicious and worthy of worship.

Every year, millions of devotees, saints, and spiritual seekers participate in the Ambubachi Mela, making Guwahati a major center of religious faith. The temple administration and the state government have made comprehensive preparations for the successful and orderly conduct of the festival.
