Outrage Over Demolition of Mosque in Sambhal Sparks Political Tensions

Sambhal, June 7: In Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, the demolition of the Mustafa Qadri Mosque continued over the weekend, with authorities using bulldozers to raze remaining parts of the structure. This action has drawn sharp criticism from Samajwadi Party MP Jiyau Rahman Bark. Reports claim that posters reading “I Love Mohammad” and a flag were found on the mosque premises, prompting an investigation.

During a press conference on Sunday, Bark condemned the demolition, questioning the legal basis for filing charges related to the posters. “I say ‘I Love Mohammad’; if you have the courage, hang me,” he declared.

He further explained that the green flag associated with the mosque is a symbol of their faith, not something to be linked to Pakistan or any other country. “The green flag is not a symbol of Pakistan or Bangladesh; it is used by Muslims during religious occasions like Eid-Milad-un-Nabi,” he stated.

Bark accused officials of spreading propaganda to divert attention from the real issues. He claimed that mosques, madrasas, cemeteries, and other religious sites in Sambhal are being systematically targeted by the BJP government to create Hindu-Muslim divisions for electoral gains. “Our aim is not to divide people. We want to unite and remove the BJP from power,” he asserted. He warned that if false reports are filed, he would challenge them in court.

Bark emphasized the need for unity among all communities, expressing his strong condemnation of the hasty and erroneous actions taken in Sambhal. He stated, “The incident that occurred yesterday was executed in haste and based on incorrect orders.”

On social media platform X, he expressed his outrage, stating that the demolition of the mosque in Kaserwa village represents a culmination of oppression. Despite numerous attempts, pleas, and legal efforts, the local administration proceeded with the demolition. He highlighted the serious questions raised by such actions, noting that when people’s grievances and legal arguments are ignored, faith in justice erodes. “Remember, the Constitution of India does not allow anyone to be above the law. This country does not belong to any individual, party, or authority,” he wrote.

The demolition has left the village in mourning, with residents feeling grief and despair. “Mothers and sisters are in tears, children are frightened, and every heart is saddened by this scene. If anyone thinks they can silence the voices of the people through power, they are mistaken,” Bark concluded.
