Srinagar, August 22: The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, and the National Conference President, Farooq Abdullah, have expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of a 14-year-old girl in Kishtwar during a medical abortion. They condemned the incident, labeling the alleged sexual exploitation of the girl as a heinous, horrifying, and completely unacceptable crime.
The ruling National Conference party stated on the social media platform ‘X’, “Party President Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have expressed profound grief and anger over the death of a minor girl from Chhatru in Kishtwar. Reports indicate that she died while being referred for medical treatment related to her pregnancy.”
The National Conference strongly condemned the incident, describing the alleged sexual exploitation of the girl as appalling and intolerable. They emphasized that the alleged involvement of a government school teacher, responsible for the education and safety of children, makes this incident even more reprehensible.
They demanded a thorough, impartial, and timely investigation into every aspect of the case. The leaders insisted that the perpetrators should face the harshest penalties under the law. They expressed solidarity with the victim’s family, asserting that there can be no compromise on the safety, dignity, and protection of every child.
The girl was referred from Kishtwar district to Doda district for medical termination of pregnancy (MTP), but tragically, she died en route. Police have arrested a school teacher in connection with the case, and an FIR has been filed against the teacher at the relevant police station.
Authorities stated that the school teacher was responsible for the crime that ultimately led to the girl’s death. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy, the girl’s death, and other related aspects of the case.
