Guwahati, August 22: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the significant changes in the state’s infrastructure over the past five years. He stated that the pace of development will accelerate even further in the next phase.
Sharing several photos on social media, Sarma declared that Assam is ready for its “next leap.” He emphasized that the first 100 days of this new phase will provide just a glimpse of what is to come. The Chief Minister showcased key achievements in electricity, healthcare, education, and connectivity.
In the electricity sector, the state has launched two production units of the 120 MW Lower Kopili Hydroelectric Project, while the 1,300 MW pumped storage project in West Karbi Anglong has been approved. These projects are expected to enhance Assam’s electricity generation and energy storage capacity, meeting the state’s growing economic and industrial needs.
Regarding healthcare and education, Sarma mentioned the expansion of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital to 4,500 beds. He also noted the commencement of the first MBA batch at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati.
According to the data shared by the Chief Minister, the infrastructure development includes the completion of two engineering colleges, Tinghang Polytechnic, and two model degree colleges.
In terms of road connectivity, the state has completed 552 kilometers of roads, 47 bridges, and three major national highway projects, strengthening connections between various parts of Assam and improving access to markets, education, and healthcare services. The Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Flyover in Guwahati was prominently mentioned as part of the state’s connectivity expansion.
Sarma stated that the development journey will continue beyond completed projects, with a special focus on highways, hospitals, housing, bridges, and other infrastructure.
He urged citizens to prepare for the next leap, emphasizing the changes in Assam’s infrastructure over the last five years. This message comes at a time when the Assam government is striving to make infrastructure development a cornerstone of its growth agenda, aiming to boost economic activities and improve public services through investment.
