New Delhi, July 19: Ahead of the Parliament’s Monsoon Session, the central government has convened an all-party meeting on Sunday. The meeting is scheduled for 11 AM in the main committee room of the Parliament House Annex. The government aims to seek cooperation from all parties to ensure smooth proceedings in both houses.
The Monsoon Session is set to run from July 20 to August 13, with a total of 19 meetings planned over these four weeks.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on the social media platform ‘X’ that President Droupadi Murmu has approved the Monsoon Session from July 20 to August 13, 2026, based on the Indian government’s recommendation. He emphasized that this session is organized for meaningful debate, discussion, and decision-making on issues of national importance.
This time, the parliamentary dynamics may appear altered. Internal differences within the Trinamool Congress, the growing distance between DMK and Congress, and the separation of MPs from the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena may impact the structure of Parliament. It is anticipated that the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) may see an increase in its numbers, while the strength of the opposition INDIA alliance could diminish.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla may make decisions regarding the merger of 20 rebel MPs from Trinamool Congress into the NCP and the six MPs from the Uddhav Thackeray faction into Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena.
In Tamil Nadu, following an alliance between Congress and TVK, DMK has written to the Lok Sabha Speaker requesting arrangements for its MPs to sit separately from Congress.
During the session, several significant bills are expected to be discussed. Priority is likely to be given to the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill related to women’s reservation and delimitation.
The government may also introduce the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill. Under this proposed bill, if a Chief Minister, Minister, or Prime Minister is in judicial custody or arrest for 30 consecutive days due to serious crimes, their position will automatically cease.
Additionally, bills related to the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative, FCRA amendments, the Developed India Education Institution Bill, the Anti-Doping Bill, a bill replacing the ordinance to increase the number of Supreme Court judges, as well as corporate laws, securities market codes, and the Code on Wages (Central Rules) may also be presented in Parliament.
