Opposition Leaders Criticize CM Yogis Remarks on Prayers in Public Spaces

Lucknow, May 19: Opposition leaders have sharply criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s recent comments regarding prayers on public roads. Congress MP Tanuj Punia expressed that Adityanath’s politics revolves solely around religion. He stated that regular religious gatherings should not be permitted on streets, regardless of whether they are Hindu, Muslim, or from any other faith. However, he acknowledged that some leniency could be allowed during specific festivals or occasions, provided proper arrangements are made.

Punia also raised concerns about ongoing encounters in the state, questioning the government about who is being targeted. “Are innocent people being targeted? Who are they having encounters with?” he asked.

Congress leader Ajay Kumar Lallu accused BJP leaders of misleading the public. He pointed out that citizens are queuing for petrol, diesel, fertilizers, and gas, suffering under inflation. He suggested that CM Yogi is attempting to divert attention from pressing issues by making controversial statements.

Lallu emphasized that the people of Uttar Pradesh are grappling with unemployment, rising prices, and shortages of diesel and fertilizers. He criticized the government for failing to address these critical issues, stating that the recent hike in fuel prices is a testament to the BJP’s failures.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Akhilesh Pratap Singh questioned why the government does not focus on providing jobs, recruiting teachers, ensuring exams are conducted without leaks, and improving law and order. He highlighted that Uttar Pradesh has become notorious for crime, particularly against women. He also noted that the NEET exam has faced leaks for the third time, indicating that no examination is being conducted properly under the BJP government.
