Caracas, July 1: Relief efforts continue in Venezuela, which has recently endured two powerful earthquakes. The Indian Army’s field hospital is consistently providing timely medical assistance and treatment to those in need. The hospital team remains dedicated to serving the people under all circumstances, a commitment that Venezuelans are deeply appreciating.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs shared several video clips showcasing the dedication of the Indian team as they bring comfort to those in pain. An elderly woman visited the field hospital established under Operation Amistad. She became emotional while sharing her experience and expressed immense gratitude towards India.
With tears in her eyes and blessings in her words, she said, “My Indian friends, your support during this difficult time is unforgettable, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your services are remarkable and truly commendable. The care you provide us with such love and respect is indeed the best. My prayers are with you; may the Almighty always be with you.”
Meanwhile, some individuals were seen waiting in line at the field hospital for their turn. The videos captured the medical team engaging with victims and offering them solace.
On June 24, Venezuela experienced two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale. These earthquakes claimed over 1,400 lives and caused widespread devastation across various regions of the country. In response, India initiated Operation Amistad to provide relief and rescue assistance.
Relief supplies sent from India arrived in Venezuela on Sunday. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar stated that India’s field hospital unit, along with relief materials, medicines, and medical equipment, will further strengthen the ongoing relief efforts.
He wrote on the social media platform X, “India’s assistance has reached Venezuela. We are confident that the field hospital unit, relief supplies, medicines, and medical equipment will bolster the ongoing relief operations following the earthquake.”
The Indian Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire also provided updates on the mission via X. They reported that two C-17 aircraft from the Indian Air Force, passing through Abidjan, have reached Venezuela. These aircraft carried relief supplies, the Indian Army’s field hospital team, and two ‘Bheeshma Cubes.’
The embassy noted that the team consists of 41 members, including nine doctors. The team is fully prepared to provide emergency treatment, care for severe injuries, life-saving surgeries, and other essential health services.
